Curricula in Training in Cardiac Radiology
Education and training in cardiac radiology and imaging forms the main objective of the British Society of Cardiovascular Imaging. With this aim, the Society has helped develop the Cardiac Radiology curricula for the Royal College of Radiologists.

This is a vendor neutral comprehensive course on techniques and applications of cardiac CT, along with clinical aspects of heart disease relevant to Cardiac CT. Course is suitable for Radiologists, Cardiologists, and Radiographers. Initial 2 days is lecture based followed by 2 days (for doctors) hands on training on dedicated Vitrea workstations leading to AHA Level 1 training. From 2009, the course will be extended to Level 2 training as well. Course is normally run in June with faculty including Level 3 trained Radiologists and other expert cardiologists. Courses run by Dr CA Roobottom (Radiologist) and Dr G Morgan-Hughes (Cardiologist). Both have been performing cardiac CT for over 5 years, are SCCT level 3 accredited and jointly have the largest Cardiac CT experience in the UK. Courses are run 6 times a year and are attended by delegates from all over the world. Both are performed with dedicated cardiac CT application specialists on dedicated workstations in the Peninsula Radiology Academy and are supplemented by clinical exposure including calcium scoring, retrospective scanning and prospective (low dose) scanning on state of the art equipment. Two levels are offered.

Four day course focusing on angiogram acquisition, technique and indications. 3 days of workstation experience with exposure to at least 50 cases. Includes live cases in the scanner.

Targeted to specifically address SCCT accreditation numbers and covers at least 100 cardiac CT angiograms and 50 non-enhanced scans. All aspects of cardiac CT are covered including scanning in the acute situation, graft studies and grown-up congenital heart disease. This course is officially accredited to level 2 by the SCCT. - Southampton General Hospital - CARDIAC MRI FOR RADIOGRAPHERS
Southampton General Hospital has a Siemens Avanto MRI scanner dedicated to cardiac imaging, and state of the art lecture theatre and conference facilities.
A full range of cardiac MR studies are performed including a large cohort of congenital patients and a wide referral base for both adenosine and dobutamine stress MRI. This provides a wealth of knowledge from a large multidisciplinary team. It is an ideal location to provide a solid grounding for any radiographer wishing to start out in cardiac MRI.

Philips Learning Centre (PLC) is an on line learning environment supporting continuing professional development. Established in 1999 PLC offers over 400 different learning activities covering a wide range of subject areas, including general anatomy and physiology, case studies, instrumentation and general management subject areas. The catalogue includes sections on CT, MRI and NM. The self-directed learning activities are available in different formats, including archived webinars, disease-specific case studies, multimedia tutorials, and interactive quizzes and games. Courses may also be studied offline via CD-ROM.
2. Philips NetForum Communities

The Philips NetForum communities offer opportunities for networking with Philips colleagues around the world. NetForum contains articles on current techniques, white papers, protocols and ExamCards, these are authored both by Philips and contributors from clinical institutions- sharing best practice with members. Currently there are three communities available, MR, CT and NM.

Cardiac CT Doctor to Doctor Training
The use of Computed Tomography within Cardiac imaging is becoming more widespread and more accessible. As CT scanners have developed we are seeing systems with faster rotation speeds, better resolution and more sophisticated gating methods. In response GE Healthcare together with Dr Carl Roobottom and Dr Gareth Morgan-Hughes have developed courses focused on CT Cardiac Imaging as follows:

The Multimodality Cardiovascular Imaging Symposium is intended to provide trainees with a solid introduction to cardiac imaging by covering core knowledge elements of the national curriculum.
The series continues with the assessment of valvular heart disease. By the end of the course, attendees should be able to:
- Understand normal valvular anatomy and physiology.
- Explain concepts underlying assessment of flow disturbance.
- Appreciate the role of established and newer forms of imaging in valve disease.
- Discuss specific imaging techniques used in percutaneous aortic and mitral valve treatments.
