ISCHEMIA Trial Announcement

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

ISCHEMIA Trial Announcement

The NIH recently approved the International Study of Comparative Health Effectiveness with Medical and Invasive Approaches (ISCHEMIA), a randomized controlled trial that aims to assess whether a more invasive management strategy provides incremental patient benefit above optimal medical therapy in patients with evidence of moderate-severe ischemia. Patient enrollment is planned to begin in mid 2012; the goal is to register 8000 patient subjects. Recognizing its increasing clinical relevance, stress CMR was included as one of three imaging modalities for characterizing and quantifying myocardial ischemia, along with stress echocardiography and stress nuclear imaging.

The SCMR believes that this study represents an important opportunity to investigate the impact of CMR in strategic management of coronary artery disease. The SCMR supports the effort made by the steering committee and the imaging core of the ISCHEMIA trial and encourages your CMR program to become one of the enrolling centers. Please contact Matthias Friedrich, MD or Raymond Kwong, MD of the CMR core laboratory of the ISCHEMIA trial (see contact information below) for further information to participate in this study. Interested centers will be requested to complete a site questionnaire and will be selected according to trial-specific criteria based on experience and protocol setup.
